Service Description

OFFICIAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Team Builder Communication Lab is a small-group summer program designed to help students strengthen the social communication skills needed to successfully interact, collaborate, and problem solve with others. Through engaging team challenges, cooperative games, and interactive communication activities, students learn how to share ideas clearly, listen to others, and work together toward common goals. Students will practice expressing their thoughts, participating in conversations, and navigating group situations while building confidence interacting with peers. This program is ideal for students who benefit from explicit support with teamwork, conversation, and social problem solving. The Team Builder Communication Lab is not therapy. It is an enrichment-based program created to support students who may or may not qualify for school-based services but would benefit from structured opportunities to practice communication and collaboration in a supportive, small-group setting. GOALS OF PROGRAM To help students strengthen social communication and teamwork skills through collaborative challenges and guided group interaction. Students will practice: starting and maintaining conversations sharing ideas with peers listening and responding to others’ thoughts working cooperatively toward shared goals navigating disagreements and problem solving in groups developing confidence interacting with peers WHO THIS PROGRAM IS FOR Best fit for students who struggle with initiating conversations, have difficulty working in groups or participating in collaborative tasks find it challenging to navigate disagreements or problem solving with peers benefit from structured opportunities to practice social communication skills. Common profiles include students with: language disorders ADHD Autism spectrum disorder executive functioning challenges social communication difficulties SIGNS PARENTS NOTICE SIGNALING A NEED Parents may notice their child experiencing: difficulty joining conversations struggles participating in group work at school difficulty taking turns in conversations trouble navigating disagreements with peers difficulty expressing ideas clearly in group settings feeling unsure about how to interact with others These challenges often reflect social communication skill needs. This lab provides a supportive environment for students to practice communication and collaboration with peers.

Cancellation Policy

Full payment is due at the time of booking to secure a child’s spot in a program. Enrollment is limited and spaces are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis once payment is received. Families who need to cancel enrollment must notify The Capable Collective at least one (1) week prior to the first scheduled session to receive a refund. Cancellations made less than one week prior to the program start date are non-refundable; however, payment may be applied toward a future program offering, pending availability. If a student is unable to attend a session due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, families must notify the Program Director at jillgrewal@capable-collective.org as soon as possible and no later than 15 minutes prior to the session start time. Missed sessions may be made up during a future program offering for the same week or theme, as space allows. Late notifications or no-shows may result in forfeiture of a make-up session. All required intake forms, waivers, and emergency contact information must be completed at least three (3) days prior to the start of the program. Students may not participate until all required documentation has been received. A parent, guardian, or designated caregiver must remain on site or within close proximity during sessions and be reachable by phone at all times. The Capable Collective provides enrichment programming and does not offer one-to-one childcare or supervision beyond the program structure. Families are expected to arrive promptly at session end times. A 5-minute grace period is provided. Late pick-ups may result in a $10 fee for every 10 minutes, payable prior to future participation. Repeated late pick-ups may result in removal from the program without refund. Students are expected to demonstrate respectful behavior toward peers, staff, and materials. If a student is unable to participate safely or appropriately, families may be contacted for early pick-up and continued concerns may result in dismissal without refund. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours and not actively ill to attend. Photo or video media may be used with parent/guardian permission, with an option to opt out. Programs are enrichment-based and are not a substitute for school-based services, outpatient therapy, or individualized clinical treatment. The Capable Collective reserves the right to modify or cancel programs due to unforeseen circumstances, with families notified and offered a refund or credit as appropriate.
